Spring is literally around the corner, although many of you don't feel it yet. That means it is time to prepare for a brighter and warmer season because it will be here before you know it. The winter coats and sweaters will be put away to make room for shorts and sleeveless tops, and the boots will be stowed away to allow for your toes to see the light of day again. There's a lot of talk of workout and diet plans in the anticipation of wearing that summer bikini in June (or March for the Spring-breakers!), and frequenting the malls for the latest Spring fashion trends can make a fun afternoon with girlfriends. Clearly, there is a lot of emphasis put on fashion in this transition from the Winter to Spring season, but what about the look of your home fashion?
When it comes to Spring home design, there's a lot of talk of Spring cleaning and de-cluttering, which is important. Cleaning the house after being cooped up all winter long is a great way to prepare for warmer months. But it's also a great opportunity to trade in the thick fabrics, the heavy blankets, and the darker, duller colors of the fall and winter season for brighter colors, lighter fabrics, and the latest trends in home décor for the Spring season.
Whether you're in the market for some remodeling in the kitchen or bath space, or if you're just looking to bring a new look to the bedroom or common area, here are five great ideas to help give your home a modern and updated look for the season to come.
No more matchy-matchy metal finishes in a space...it's time to branch out and experiment with mixing the looks! Gold and brass? No problem! Brushed nickel and copper? Even better!
Now, there are some tricks to doing this and making it look really great. For example, one of the finishes should dominate the space more than the other. So if you want copper pots displayed in the kitchen and you have brushed nickel handles on the cabinetry, display the copper pots as a collection in one area in the space, so the eye isn't being drawn to nickel and copper all over the room.
Another great look is mixing metals that compliment each other very well. Oil-rubbed bronze looks really great with polished nickel and aged brass; black (iron) paired with aged brass or satin nickel is gorg; etc. To learn more, visit white and gold design and learn more about mixing metal finishes.
A black and white palette is sophisticated and classic and can pair well with any and all colors and various colorful patterns. Black and white geometric patterns are a great way to add depth and movement to a space. The rug in the photo above adds a ton of texture and warmth to an otherwise stale space, while in the opposite photo, the black and white patterned pillows add the perfect pop of texture to the space.

Graphic Tile
Graphic tile is hot right now. It adds an artistic element to any space and can be incorporated in numerous ways. Tile isn't just for the floor; it can look great on bathroom walls, as a back splash in the kitchen, as an accent wall in a room, or even to add a decorative element to a staircase.

Geometric Patterns
One of my favorite looks this season is the bright geometric patterns and accessories that are available in an assortment of hues, metallics, and dimensions. The geometric patterns can add color and texture to any palette in the form of a rug or a fabric chair, or it can add depth or bring focus to a particular wall or room by hanging. Geometric prints and patterns can be incorporated in the form of furnishings, lighting, decor, wall art, decorative pillows and blankets, and other home goods.
Black and White Geometric Patterns

Shades of Indigo
Above photos (clockwise from left):
Indigo is the pop color for this season. It's sophisticated, versatile, classy, calming, and neutral. Indigo can be complimented with all colors, and looks especially chic with bold, saturated colors like dandelion yellow and hot pink. Indigo blue also looks great with teal, gray, beige, and all metallics. Combining both cool and warm tones with indigo allows for a well-balanced space.
